Sleep is a necessary activity that is required for each living being to maintain their body’s health. Every human needs at least 6-8 hours to sleep each day but sometimes they sacrifice their sleep time to do something else. Specifically for some students who often find themselves staying up late to do their important activities for school like chasing assignment deadlines or studying for exams. However, the habit of staying up late can have significant bad impacts on our lives that can affect our overall well-being both physically and mentally. Why do I say so?
Firstly, some students stay up late during the exam season to increase studying time and the result is not as they expected because with a lesser amount of sleep can make them less focused, feel sleepy, hard to concentrate and the worse they can forget anything that they have learned before, making their hard work seem useless.
Secondly, students do stay up late when they have a lot of tasks to do. They have to stay up late to finish all of their tasks that need to be done within the deadline. However, they feel sleepy while doing their tasks and can't maximize their work. As a result, they have a low score for their task and affect their academic performance.
Last but not least, staying up late can damage their body. Always staying up late can lower the immune system, so they can easily get tired or even get sick. It can also restrict growth because growth hormone is often released when someone sleeps, if they sleep less their growth hormone is suppressed. Some diseases can occur if we stay up late such as heart attack, stroke, and diabetes because it increases blood pressure. Also with increased blood pressure they can easily get angry and emotionally not stable because they can't think clearly.
In conclusion, staying up late is bad for students because it comes with a lot of bad consequences that can affect our physical health and mental well-being. It may seem like a necessary sacrifice in the pursuit of academic success but it can turn out badly as the time goes by resulting in useless sacrifice. By valuing sleep as a fundamental thing for living as a student, we can achieve a more balanced and long-term experience of unforgettable school moments.
